I was born in Milwaukee, WI (1978). I found the still camera while studying architecture at Virginia Tech and soon after transferred to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to study photography. But before finishing my undergraduate work (BFA 2004), I discovered the moving image, and as such concentrated my studies in both photography and video. In 2008 I completed my MFA in Electronic Integrated Arts from Alfred University.
Having lived and been immersed in many cultures spanning four continents, I perpetually study culture, cross-cultural communication, and the creative function of difference. My first body of work investigating non-verbal communication between family members was “You are a Perpetual Tourist”, which was shown in 2008 at the Central Academy of Fine Art (Beijing) and E.H. Little Fine Arts Center (Charlotte NC), as well as several festivals during the three following years. In 2009, I was invited to speak about “You are a Perpetual Tourist” at the Universidad Mayor and the Universidad de Chile, both in Santiago de Chile. In 2010 I did an artist residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris where I worked closely with two bi-cultural couples documenting non-verbal communication between persons in a cross-cultural family. This past year I received a 2012 Regional Artist Project Grant from the Arts & Science Council of the State of North Carolina to continue my investigations of communication in personal interaction, this time in Kenya.
I have exhibited and screened work worldwide including Transmediale, Harvestworks, re-new Digital Art Forum, LOOP Video Art Festival, and the Gallery of the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts. I recently relocated to Los Angeles, Caifornia, where I live and work.
