Talking Anthropology on the Open Anthropology Cooperative (ning--this website) has been a lot of fun, but all good things come to an end and this will be my last post. The reasons are entirely practical, though not impersonal. OAC here (there is another highly successful and vibrant OAC group on Facebook), has come to the end of what it can reasonably achieve. This website is full up with interesting, but chaotically ordered content and points of contact. It is really a massive hammer to crack the nut of a few people who want to conduct anthropology outside the parameters set by how the academy 'disciplines' the subject. Anthropology is about what it means to be a human being, but this site has become clogged up a bit like a blocked drain and so in true nomadic style it is time to cast off local debts and disappear somewhere else. The OAC committee are working on a new more slimmed down option,--so we will see what comes out of that and I will be joining that site whenever it happens. But, for now, I think it is time to say goodbye to OAC ning. It has been good to be 'here'.
